State players on CPL all-star squads
Ten players from state colleges have been selected to play in the Coastal Plain League's All-Star Game July 8 in Hampton, Va.

Nine players are on the West Division squad, with Newberry's Ryan Cranmer the only S.C. college player on the East Division.

West: 1B - *Ty Barkell, Forest City (USC Aiken); 2B - *K.J. McAllister, Asheboro (Limestone); 3B - *Alex Tomasovich, Asheboro (Charleston Southern); SS - *Michael Wilson, Columbia (Francis Marion); DH - *Allen Staton, Columbia (North Greenville); P - Hunter Rice, High Point-Thomasville (College of Charleston), Jacob Long, Florence (Clemson); Andrew Tomasovich, Asheboro (Charleston Southern); Derek Smith, Columbia (College of Charleston).
East: OF - *Ryan Cranmer, Morehead City (Newberry).

Greiner hitting .385
Catcher Grayson Greiner is hitting .385 after four games - all starts - for the U.S. Collegiate National Team as the squad heads to Japan for the 39th USA vs. Japan College All-Star Series.
The USA has gone 10-0 in its series of games against summer collegiate league teams.

Schools begin new affiliations
July 1 marked the official effective date for conference changes by College of Charleston (from Southern Conference to Colonial Athletic Association) and Coker (from Conference Carolinas to South Atlantic Conference).

Augusta State changes name, hires coach
Augusta State of the Peach Belt Conference has changed its name to Georgia Regents University Augusta and has hired former University of Georgia assistant coach Jason Eller as head baseball coach.

Longwood promotes assistant
Longwood University of the Big South Conference has promoted assistant coach Brian McCullough to head coach. He replaces Buddy Bolding, who retired after 35 seasons.

Crowe talks of choosing USC over pros
The Spartanburg Herald-Journal (GoUpstate.com) has a story on USC signee Wil Crowe  and his decision to choose college over the pros. Crowe, a pitcher-infielder, was the Gatorade baseball player of the year for Tennessee.
