Gossett will miss weekend start
WCCP-FM's Roy Philpott, who also serves as an announcer on Clemson's baseball broadcasts, reports via Twitter that junior right-hander Daniel Gosett will miss his scheduled start against N.C. State this weekend because of shoulder stiffness.
Losing Gossett, the staff ace and a product of Byrnes High School, for much time would make it hard for the Tigers to catch Florida State in the ACC Atlantic Division standings. He has a 3-0 record and a 2.25 ERA and is projected as one of the top college pitchers available in this year's MLB draft.
There was no immediate word on Gossett's replacement. Zack Erwin or Clate Schmidt seem possible candidates, but both had extended appearances in midweek games.
Clemson's No. 3 weekend starter, Jake Long, started Tuesday's game against Furman, but left after one inning because of tightness in his back. Long told TheClemsonInsider.com on Wednesday the move was precautionary and he expects to make his scheduled start in the N.C. State series finale on Monday.
The series starts on Saturday with a game on Fox Sports Net South. The Sunday and Monday games are scheduled to be on ESPNU.
Schedules change
It's the weekend, there are predictions of rain and game times are changing:
* The start of Erskine's Friday home game against King has been moved up to 1:45 p.m.
* First pitch for North Greenville's Saturday home doubleheader against Belmont Abbey has been moved back to 1 p.m.
