Gamecocks face Camels
South Carolina plays Campbell at 7 p.m. Friday in first-round play of the of the NCAA Baseball Tournament's Columbia regional. Junior left-hander Jordan Montgomery is scheduled to start for the Gamecocks. USC coach Chad Holbrook said Thursday that Max Schrock (back) is close to 100 percent and may serve as designated hitter. Holbrook said outfielder Connor Bright (hyper-extended elbow) isn't quite as close to being healthy as Schrock is.

Goodwin, Gress honored
Newberry's Chas Goodwin has been named second-team Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America.

Francis Marion's Dalton Gress was a third-team selection.
