PalmettoStateBaseball.com team of the week, April 28-May 4: Charleston Southern

Charleston Southern (3-1 last week)
(Went 1-0 against Wofford; went 2-1 at Presbyterian)

Charleston Southern last finished a season with a winning record in 1996. If the Buccaneers finish above .500 this year, they may look back at the past couple of weeks as a turning point.

The Buccaneers had an eight-game winning streak - with six of the victories on the road - entering Sunday's series finale at Presbyterian. PC got a late home run to spoil CSU's bid for a sweep, but it was a good week for the Buccaneers nonetheless. They won at Wofford earlier in the week and took two of three at PC to put more distance between themselves and the Blue Hose in the Big South Conference South Division standings.

A win over nationally ranked South Carolina came earlier in the winning streak.

Coach Stuart Lake's team has three games with Winthrop, three with VMI and single games against The Citadel and USC Upstate to complete the regular season.

Bobby Ison, Alex Tomasovich and Chase Shelton are all hitting better than .345 for the Buccaneers. Austin Weekley has saved nine games.

CSU started the season 14-5, then lost 14 of their next 16 games to fall below .500 before reversing course again.

The Buccaneers are playing their first full season with lights at their home park, something helpful in building interest in the program.

If weeks like the last two are any indication, Lake appears to have the CSU program moving in the right direction.
