I saw a news release today that the American Sports Network is going to be doing a package of Conference-USA baseball games.
The ASN is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group. It has produced packages of college football and basketball games carried by stations throughout the country this season .
WMYA, the TV station which has produced the Clemson-South Carolina baseball telecasts from Fluor Field in Greenville the past few years, is owned by Sinclair.
I don't know the contractual limitations are in regards to a national telecast, but I'm wondering if there's a chance the Feb. 28 middle game of the Clemson-USC baseball series, known as the Reedy River Rivalry, could be broadcast to an audience broader than South Carolina TV markets.
The opening game of the Clemson/USC series in Clemson Feb. 27 (Friday) is set for ESPN3 and the Sunday game in Columbia is set for the SEC Network.
A Greenville Drive spokesman said he was unaware if any TV plans had been made. However, I'm sure the Drive wouldn't mind having Fluor Field showcased to a larger TV audience.
I may be totally off base, but if it comes to pass I can say I predicted it.
