News digest, March 12, part 2

U.S. women win gold; 3 state players on team
The U.S. Women's National Baseball Team won the Gold medal at the Pan American Games qualifier with a 3-0 victory over Venezuela. The Americans finished 5-0 in the tournament.

There are three South Carolinians on the roster: pitcher Alex Fulmer of Little Mountain, catcher/pitcher Anna Kimbrell of Fort Mill and infielder/pitcher Codee Yeske of Lexington.

Newberry series pushed back
Newberry's weekend series at South Atlantic Conference foe Brevard has been pushed back a day. The teams will play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday and a single game at 1 p.m. Sunday.

* College of Charleston has issued a combination High Point series preview/Taylor Clarke update. The right-hander is having a phenomenal season. He has won three Colonial Athletic Association pitcher of the week awards (in four weeks) and a couple of national pitcher/player of the week awards.
Cougars

* The Associated Press (via Yahoo!.com) posted a preview of the opening of league play for the Southeastern Conference.
