Palmetto State Baseball team of the week, Feb. 8-14: Francis Marion

Francis Marion (3-0 for the week)
(went 3-0 against Southern Wesleyan)

Francis Marion and Southern Wesleyan both entered their weekend series with 5-0 records. The host Patriots used superb pitching to sweep the three games and improve to 8-0 for the first time in program history.

Coach Art Inabinet's squad held Southern Wesleyan to three runs -- two earned -- for the series. Southern Wesleyan had 16 hits for the weekend,10 in the finale.

FMU pitchers struck out 25 and walked 1 in 23 innings. A 25-1 strikeout-walk ratio is good in any league. The 0.78 staff earned-run average for the weekend lowered the team mark to 1.91 for the season.

The Patriots complete their season-opening nine-game home state against Belmont Abbey on Wednesday, then open Peach Belt Conference play at Armstrong State next weekend.
