Some highlights:
* The State's 11 NCAA Division I teams open their season on Friday, with nine playing on their home fields and Furman and Presbyterian playing at Fluor Field in Greenville in the First Pitch Invitational.
* Monte Lee makes his debut as Clemson's coach when the Tigers play host to Maine. Matt Heath, who replaced Lee at College of Charleston, coaches his first series against Nebraska.
* In addition to the First Pitch Invitational, three other round-robin type events are planned in state this week: the Caravelle Resort Tournament in Conway and Myrtle Beach, the Pepsi Invitational in Florence and the Upstate/Wofford event in Spartanburg.
* Spartanburg Methodist is in the Southern Union State Tournament in Wadley, Ala., and Voorhees plays Fairmont State twice and host Clark Atlanta twice in Atlanta.
* Lander and USC Aiken, tied atop the Peach Belt Conference standings, play a three-game weekend series at Roberto Hernandez Stadium in Aiken.
