Benedict-Claflin series gets added exposure

The final SIAC baseball series between Benedict and Claflin will get exposure in two of the state's top professional venues next month.

Their Friday, April 20, meeting already had been announced as part of the Greenville Drive's Jackie Robinson Day observance. The teams will play at 7 p.m. at Fluor Field in downtown Greenville's West End area.

After taking Saturday off, the squads will face off at 1 p.m Sunday, April 22, at Tiger Field in Benedict's athletics complex off Two Notch Road in Columbia.

On Thursday, Tigers coach Selwyn Young texted information that the teams will conclude the three-game set at Spirit Communications Park in Columbia at 6 p.m.  Monday, April 23 in the first Benedict Tigers Baseball Classic. The facility, off Bull Street, is home to the Columbia Fireflies.

Earlier this month, Claflin announced plans to move from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association beginning next year.

Benedict is at Morehouse and Claflin plays host to Paine in SIAC series this Friday and Saturday.
