Wrapping up Thursday's S.C. college baseball, March 29

Adam Hill pitched five hitless innings in his return to the starting rotation and three unearned runs in the first inning got South Carolina (15-11, 2-5) on its way to a 6-1 victory over Tennessee (17-10, 4-3) to open their SEC series at Founders Park.

Hill missed his scheduled start at Georgia last Friday with arm tenderness, but looked sharp against the Vols. He has allowed 12 hits in 32 2/3 innings this season.

Riley Hogan's two-run single capped the Gamecocks' first, which was set up by a hit batsman, two walks and a Tennessee error.

The Volunteers broke up the no-hitter and shutout in the eighth inning. Four Gamecocks relievers combined to allow two hits over the final four innings.

Jonah Bride had three hits for the Gamecocks.

Elsewhere:
* Clemson (20-6, 6-4)  cruised to a 10-2 victory over Boston College (9-14, 4-6) to open an ACC series at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. Tigers starter Jacob Hennessy allowed one hit and an unearned run over six innings. Robert Jolly got Clemson started with a three-run double in the first inning. Seth Beer singled, homered, walked twice and drove in four runs for the Tigers.

* Jason Bilous struck out 10 in six innings and three teammates homered for Coastal Carolina (20-8, 7-0) in a 7-3 victory at Georgia Southern (12-13, 5-2) to begin a Sun Belt Conference series. Zach Biermann. Seth Lancaster and Kevin Woodall Jr. went yard for Coastal. Lancaster, Woodall and Cory Wood had two hits apiece for the Chanticleers.

* Wofford (18-9, 2-2) rallied from a five-run deficit to force extra innings and went on to claim a 6-5 victory over Western Carolina (3-21, 1-3) on McClain Bradley's RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning. The visiting Catamounts held a 5-0 lead until the Terriers erupted for five runs in the seventh. Max McDougald's two-run double highlighted the outburst. In the 11th, Alex Cargin drew a leadoff walk and Colin Davis singled him to third. After Davis stole second, Bradley singled through the left side of the infield. Bradley and Mack Nathanson had two hits apiece for Wofford.

* Thatcher Coleman's grand slam was part of a seven-run sixth inning as Presbyterian (8-19, 3-4) coasted to a 13-7 win over Liberty (14-10, 4-3) to begin a Big South Conference series in Clinton.  The Blue Hose were trailing 5-4 before the seven spot. Five PC players had two hits apiece.

* Jason Miller doubled and homered and Derek Horton and Mike Sconzo homered as Charleston Southern (9-18, 2-5) took a 9-5 win over Longwood (6-17, 1-6) in the opener of a Big South Conference series.

* Max Pinto's eighth-inning single was the difference as Samford (13-14, 2-2) beat Furman (13-14, 0-1) to spoil the Paladins' first Southern Conference game of the season. Jabari Richards doubled in two runs in the second and Jake Crawford singled in a run in the third as Furman took a 3-0 lead. But the Bulldogs chipped away, scoring one in the sixth and in the seventh, Reliever Wyatt Burns struck out six Paladins around three hits over 2 2/3 innings of relief.  Crawford had three hits for Furman.

* USC Upstate (13-13-1) starter Blake Whitney left the game after striking out seven in five shutout innings, but the Spartans bullpen couldn't hold on and as Kennesaw State (14-12, 1-0) won, 9-4, to in the opening Atlantic Sun Conference game of the season for both teams. The Owls scored two runs sixth, four in the seventh and three in the ninth. Charlie Carpenter tripled and homered and Pat Raiff had a double and two singles for Upstate.

* Grant English's two-out single in the ninth saved Winthrop (12-15, 6-1) the indignity of being no-hit in a 6-1 loss at High Point (13-12, 5-2) in a Big South Conference series opener. High Pointy has never had a no-hitter as an NCAA Division I program.

* Connor Grainger's two-run double gave UNC Pembroke (21-8, 7-8) a 6-5 walk-off victory over No. 15 USC Aiken (20-11, 11-5) to open their Peach Belt Conference series. Daulton Weeks' second two-run homer of the game had given the Pacers a 5-4 lead in the eighth inning. Weeks also doubled. Jose Bonilla tripled, singled twice and stolen a bases for USCA.
