Palmetto State Baseball team of the week, April 2-8: Furman

Furman (3-1 for the week)
(beat Georgia State; went 2-1 at Mercer)

Furman entered the week on an eight-game losing streak. The Paladins had lost leads late in the first two games of their SoCon opening series with Samford, then got blown out 10-0 in Game 3 last Saturday.

When the Paladins fell behind Georgia State 10-0 after 2 1/2 innings on Wednesday, it looked like their misery would continue. Instead the Paladins roared back for a 13-12 victory and carried that momentum into a 2-1 series win at Mercer, which entered the weekend in first place in the Southern Conference.

Freshman Jared Mihalik had started three games before coach Brett Harker put him in the lineup against Georgia State. Mihalik has responded by going 8-for-17. He homered in all four games and drove in nine.

The Paladins play host top Winthrop on Tuesday.
