Crusaders to host Southeast Regional

North Greenville is the top seed and host team for the NCAA Division II Baseball Southeast
Regional beginning Thursday, it was announced Sunday night.

The games will be played at Ray and Bea Dillard Field at Ashmore Park on the Tigerville campus. There are plans for upgrades in the future, but the current facility has very little permanent seating. There is room for portable chairs and standing room.

The seven-team, double-elimination event will determine one of eight teams for the NCAA Division II College World Series in June. The Crusaders (44-8) regular-season and tournament champions of Conference Carolinas, have a first-round bye and will play their first game at 3 p.m. Friday the winner of a first-round game between No. 4 Columbus State (40-12) and No. 5 UNC Pembroke (38-13).

Georgia College (42-10) is the No. 2 seed and will open with Lincoln Memorial (35-19) and No. 3 Belmont Abbey (37-12) meets No. 6 Wingate (35-19) in other first-round games.

There are two games scheduled for Sunday. North Greenville, affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention, normally does not play baseball games on Sundays. 

The championship round is set for Monday.

USC Aiken (35-19) lost To Georgia College, 7-5, in the finals of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament earlier Sunday, but did not receive an at-large bid. Also bypassed was Mount Olive (36-14-1) in Conference Carolinas.
