The Fire Ants (36-21) won five straight games after falling into the losers' bracket when they lost their first game on Saturday. They forced Tuesday's game with a 12-11 victory over FD Tech Monday night.
Each team scored in the first inning on Tuesday, then the regular-season champion Stingers took a 3-1 lead in the second. The Fire Ants went ahead 4-3 in the seventh, but FD Tech responded with two in the eighth for a 5-4 lead.
The Fire Ants scored two runs in the ninth, then held off the Stingers in the bottom of the inning to advance to the Eastern District Tournament later this month.
The Eastern District will be hosted by the winner of Region 15. Monroe CC and ASA are playing a best-of-five series to determine that champion and district tournament host. Monroe won the opener, 5-0.
In past seasons the regular-season champion from Region 10 would have gone to the district
tournament, also. This season, Region 15 will have two teams and Region 10 will have one.
