Andy Wittry has written an article for NCAA.com picking an all-time lineup for the University of South Carolina. It's part of a series of articles recognizing some of college baseball's most successful programs.
1. Mike Curry, OF
2. Jackie Bradley Jr., OF
3. Landon Powell, C
4. Justin Smoak, 1B
5. Brian Buscher, 3B
6. Adam Everett, SS
7. Mac White, OF
8. Scott Wingo, 2B
9. Earl Bass, P
What do you think? I think it's a pretty good list, although I wasn't following college baseball very closely when Curry, Everett and White were playing.
Some others I think needed to receive serious consideration, even if they weren't selected:
* First baseman Hank Small, who was Carolina's all-time home runs leader until Smoak came along.
* Pitcher Kip Bouknight, USC's all-time wins leader and one of the cornerstones of Ray Tanner's rebuilding program.
* Pitcher Matt Price, although this a starting lineup and not one with a closer
* Pitcher Michael Roth, who emerged from spot reliever to key component of three straight CWS teams.
Would you have chosen someone else? Please add your picks in the comments section.
Even though Clemson hasn't won a College World Series title, it certainly has been one of college baseball's most successful programs over the past six decades. I hope the NCAA selects an all-time Clemson lineup.
