South Carolina (27-18, 12-10) continued its red-hot hitting in a 13-5 rout of No. 4 Mississippi (35-12, 12-10) to open a Southeastern Conference series at Founders Park in Columbia Friday night.
The Gamecocks, who moved two games above .500 in league play for the first time this season, had 15 hits and have 102 hits over their last eight games. They scored three runs in the first inning, four in the third inning and five in the fourth.
Justin Row had four hits, Madison Stokes and Hunter Taylor added three apiece and Jacob Olson hit a three-run homer for the Gamecocks.
Three Gamecocks relievers combined to strike out eight batters over the final five innings.
It was the 300th victory of Gamecocks coach Mark Kingston's college coaching career.
Game 2 of the series is set for 4 p.m. Saturday.

* College of Charleston (31-15, 13-6) stretched its winning streak to four by besting Towson (12-34, 5-11), 8-3, to open their Colonial Athletic Association series in Maryland. Logan McRae had two doubles and Bradley Dixon singled and doubled for the Cougars. Carter Love allowed one hit and struck out two in 5 1/3 innings of relief.
* Winthrop (21-23, 13-6) overcame an early four-run deficit for a 5-4 win at Charleston Southern (13-31, 4-15) in the opener of a Big South Conference series. Hunter Lipscomb tied the score with a two-run homer in the seventh and Tyler Halstead singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth. Halstead finished with three hits. Josh Peters had a three-run homer in the Buccaneers' four-run second inning.
* The Citadel (17-27, 6-11) clinched a SoCon series win at East Tennessee State (23-19, 8-19) with a 13-6 win in Johnson City. The teams take Saturday off for graduation ceremonies, then complete the series on Sunday. Bryce Leasure had three hits and Ben Peden had a grand slam and drove in five runs for the Bulldogs.
* Furman (22-23, 7-9) turned a triple play in the first inning and collected 18 hits in a 13-4 win over Western Carolina (4-39, 2-17) to open a Southern Conference series at Latham Stadium. The Catamounts got two hits to open the game, but a lineout triple play got the Paladins out of the inning. Nik Verbeke allowed a fourth-inning run, but the Paladins scored four runs in the bottom of the inning and were never headed. Ben Anderson, Jake Crawford and Brandon Elmy had three hits apiece for the Paladins. Verbeke allowed seven hits and struck out four in six innings.
* Louisiana (27-20, 13-9) scored three runs in the first inning and never trailed in a 12-6 win over Coastal Carolina (31-15, 15-9) to open a Sun Belt Conference in Cajun Country. Zach Biermann had a single and a homer for the Chanticleers, who were held to one run until the ninth inning.
* North Greenville (43-7) had its 12-game winning snapped with a 6-2 loss at Nova Southereastern (31-12) in a meeting of ranked NCAA Divsion II teams. Utah Jones had a two-run homer for the Crusaders, ranked No. 1 nationally. Tucker Burgess (14-2) suffered the loss.
* Samford (26-21, 11-5) moved into sole possession of second place in the Southern Conference with a 4-2 victory over Wofford (30-17. 10-6) in Birmingham. The Bulldogs scored a pair of runs in the second inning, but the Terriers tied the score on a pair of sacrifice flies in the fourth. Samford generated a two-out rally in the seventh and drove Terriers starter Adam Scott from the game with three hits and a walk to produce two runs. Andrew Orzel had a single and a double to account for two of the Terriers' five hits.
* Claflin (17-31) stayed alive in the SIAC Tournament with a pair of victories. In the morning, the Panthers outlasted Paine, 11-9. Eric McElveen had his second four-hit game in as many days. Claflin beat Clark Atlanta, 14-4, in a seven-inning game Friday night. McElveen had a bases-loaded walk and an inside-the-park homer.
