Fluor Field college schedule taking shape

Downtown Greenville's Fluor Field will be the scene of at least 13 regular-season college baseball games this season.

The Greenville Drive professional baseball team, which owns and operates the facility modeled after Boston's Fenway Park,  hasn't announced the complete College Series lineup, but a check of individual team schedules provides some insight.

The Drive usually have at least one game matching Historically Black Colleges and Universities around April 15 as part of a Jackie Robinson Day celebration. In past seasons that game has been announced after the regular season has begun.

The middle game of the Clemson-South Carolina series is set to open the schedule March 2.  Clemson and Carolina also will meet Furman at Fluor Field later in the season.

Furman makes a total of six appearances in downtown Greenville.

Michigan State, the alma mater of Drive owner Craig Brown, makes its annual visit to play three games while waiting for more suitable baseball weather up north.

Ten of the 11 games involve NCAA Division I teams. North Greenville and USC Aiken, projected to be ranked in NCAA Division II this season, meet at Fluor Field March 20.

Fluor Field will play host to the Southern Conference Tournament again this season. from May 21-26.
