Palmetto State Baseball team of the week, Feb. 24-March 1: Coastal Carolina

Coastal Carolina (3-0 for the week)
(went 3-0 vs. Maryland)

Just after the first weekend of the college baseball season ended, Coastal Carolina announced coach Gary Gilmore was dealing with a form of liver cancer.  A school official said the coach of the 2016 College World Series champions intended to remain with the team during the season.

After a midweek win over UNC Wilmington, the Chanticleers lost the first two games of the following weekend to fall to 2-3. Hangover from the news about Gilmore? Good opposition? That's just baseball?

Who knows?

Regardless, Coastal has responded with five straight wins, including a weekend sweep of a Maryland
team that entered the series with a 6-1 record. Two lopsided wins opened the series and a come-from-behind win on Sunday.

After a Tuesday home game against Charlotte, the Chanticleers visit nationally ranked N.C. State on Wednesday.
