Tijawan Black's sixth-inning double gave the Hornets lead in a back-and-forth game and they held on to take the opener of a doubleheader at Riley Park in Sumter.

Voorhees scored a pair of runs in the top of the first, but Morris got a run in the first and three in the third to go ahead, 4-2.

The Tigers tied the score in the fifth, fell behind on an unearned run in the fifth and tied the score on a passed ball in the sixth.

In the Morris sixth, Guillermo Morel drew a leadoff walk, went to second on an error and took third on a single. Black followed with his second double of the game to break the tie.

Korique Rainey pitched a 1-2-3 seventh to get the save.

Black also stole two bases and scored two runs to go with two RBI for Morris.

Voorhees won the second game, 8-3, behind two hits apiece from Shay Barbosa, Joseph Gaines, Jordyn Hill and Angel Morel.

Elsewhere: Nicholas Badillo and Jayden Hernandez had RBIs in the first inning and Winthrop's pitchers made sure that was enough to win over Toledo in the opener of a four-game series ... Dylan Brewer had three hits and drove in two runs as South Carolina (6-0) throttled Belmont ... Jake Brink allowed a run and struck out six in seven innings as College of Charleston remained unbeaten. Trotter Harlan tied the score with a five-inning homer and Luke Wood singled in the winner later in the inning ... Kennesaw State, which entered the day hitting .184, smacked 20 hits to hand Clemson its first loss and its worst home loss since 1936. The Owls denied the Tigers in their first attempt to reach 3,000 wins all-time. Coach Erik Bakich took out most of the starters after five innings with the score 13-0 ... A 10-run fifth inning gave Coastal Carolina control and five players had multiple hits in a victory over Illinois ... Marshall Toole had three hits and drove in four runs as Wofford blew past Fairleigh Dickinson ... Noah Sullivan pitched six shutout innings and drove in three as USC Upstate won its opener in the OneSpartanburg Inc. Classic ... Reece Fields struck nine in seven innings as North Greenville took the opener of a Conference Carolinas series with King ... Brayden Corn drove in three runs and hit one of USC Union's three homers as the Bantams extended their winning streak to eight by beating Mott. A scheduled second game was canceled because of weather related logistical issues. ... Javier Crespo and Travis Elliott had three hits apiece as The Citadel took a series opener over Akron ... Colt Wilkins and Wade Vinesett combined on a shutout as Limestone won Game 1 of a SAC series moved from Emory & Henry because of weather issues ... Carson-Newman got a walk-off win over Newberry in the series opener, sending the Wolves to 0-4 in South Atlantic Conference play ... Daniel Eagen struck out 11 in 4 2/3 innings, but Presbyterian lost its second straight game ... Lehigh took charge early to win the series opener at Charleston Southern. Dakota Miller had two homers and drove in four runs for the Buccaneers ... Tampa, ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division II, came alive on offense after a slow start to win a series opener against USC Aiken ... New member Young Harris won its first Conference Carolinas game by handcuffing Erskine in a series opener ... Shepherd scored four runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to overtake USC Beaufort ... Bob Jones got 12 hits, but suffered its eighth straight loss to open the season ... Marco Martinez hit two of Tennessee Wesleyan's four homers in a series-opening win at Columbia International ... Claflin's pitching staff was victimized for 11 or more runs for the seventh straight game in losing a series opener to Bluefield State. Kimon Quarles reached base five times for the Panthers ... Francis Marion's home game was UNC Pembroke was halted by fog in the third inning of a scoreless tie. The teams will play a pair at 1 p.m. Saturday, with the series finale being pushed to Sunday ...
