Briefly: Erskine scored five runs in the second inning and rode the strong pitching of Alex Heintz to a win over regular-season champ North Greenville in the Conference Carolinas Tournament in Gastonia.

Jorge Pascual singled, doubled and homered to drive in four runs for the Flying Fleet, who advance to a 3 p.m. Friday game against UNC Pembroke. His three-run homer capped the five-run second inning.

Heintz, who got rocked for 11 runs (8 earned) in 2 1/3 innings by the Crusaders in his final regular-season start last Friday , went five innings and allowed two runs - one earned - while striking out seven.

North Greenville plays Emmanuel at 11 a.m. Friday in an elimination game.

Beyond the border 

* ACC:  Louisville won the opener of a series with Boston College, 12-7 ... Miami edged BYU, 3-2, in 12 innings.

* SEC: No. 3 Tennessee and Florida were rained out and will play a doubleheader on Friday.
