Dissa and data, Feb. 3

Anderson

* Trojan treats: Coach P.J. Zocchi was likely very happy his club struck out just nine times in the the three-game series win over Emory & Henry ... While both teams are in the South Atlantic Conference, the games don't count in the league standings.

Bob Jones

* Bear facts: Conley Burk, who hit .405 in limited duty last season, suffered an injury while running the bases on Friday and was unable to start either of Saturday's games. He did pinch-hit in Game 2 and grounded into a game-ending fielder's choice.

Claflin

* Panther paws: The Panthers did not commit an error in their three weekend wins. Claflin made 111 errors in 45 games a season ago ...  They also had more walks than strikeouts, 17-16. Last season, ppClaflin struck out 432 times compared to 125 walks ... Doing research back to 2010 on the Claflin website, I've been unable to find evidence of shutout wins in back-to-back games. I did find two consecutive wins by shutout in 2012, but there was a loss in between.

Coker

* Cobra coils: Jaylen Mack is expected to fill a big role this season, and he didn't disappoint in Week 1, going 5-for-10 with a pair of doubles ... Gabriel Santiago scored six of the Cobras' 15 runs and stole three bases.

Columbia International

* Ram-egrams: Check out some numbers from Maurice Gomez in the four-game sweep at Florida National: he was 13-for-19 with 4 doubles, 2 homers, 3 walks, 13 runs scored and 12 driven in ... Mason Turner matched Gomez in home runs and RBI ... Connor Kirkley struck out eight in three innings ... The Rams scored 74 runs over the weekend and lead the NAIA with a .426 team batting average.

Erskine

* Fleet filberts: Ten Erskine relievers had scoreless outings in the 2-1 series win over Lander ...Next up is a trip south: Augusta on Tuesday followed by Lynn on Thursday, Nova Southeastern on Friday and Barry on Saturday. Nova Southeastern is No. 24 in this week's divIIbaseball.com rankings.

Florence-Darlington Tech

* Stinger zingers: Tech came home from its season-opening tournament in Florida with some un-Tech-like numbers, including a 6.58 staff ERA, 23 runs scored and six errors in four games.

Francis Marion

* Patriot points: Starters Rijnaldo Euson and Robbie Jordan provided a strong 1-2 punch in the Tusculum series. Euson pitched six shutout innings and Jordan allowed one run in five innings. Add a .330 team batting average to that and a 3-0 weekend is understandable. Leading the attack were Rayth Peterson (5-for-10), Will Dorrell (5-for-11) and Austin Bunn (4-for-9) ... FMU stole 11 bases.

Lander

* Cat Scratches:  Garrett Chun, a transfer from Bethune-Cookman, was 5-for-8 with 3 walks and 2 stolen bases against Erskine ... All four of Connor Droze's hits were for extra bases (2 doubles, a triple and a homer).

Limestone

* Halo homilies: Corey Hodierne was 6-for-11 in the Union series ... Kemper Nix struck out six in four innings ... Six Limestone errors led to 10 unearned runs.

Morris

* Hornet heaters: After getting 12 hits in the season-opener at Toccoa Falls, Morris hit .125 (6-for-48) in the final two games.

Newberry

* Wolf howls: The Wolves hit .387 in the sweep at Barton, with Wilson Wages (.600), Bryson Nuckols (.583), Jesse Free (.500) and Chandler Mims (.500) leading the way.

North Greenville

* Blazer blurbs: North Greenville  is 11th in this week's DivIIbaseball.com rankings ... USC transfer Tristan Salinas scored 10 runs against USC Beaufort, including one in all seven innings of the 29-3 win on Friday ... The Trailblazers were 15-for-15 on stolen bases ... Thomas Powell had a .769 on-base percentage ...  NGU pitchers struck out 52 in 35 innings while allowing just 18 hits and 8 walks. Starters Brody Fowler, Jake Monroe and Bennett Roemer all allowed one hit in their four-inning stints.

Southern Wesleyan

* Warrior wallops: Cam Mitchem was one of SWU's offensive leaders last season and he's picked up where he left off. Mitchem was 3-for-7 with five walks. USC Sumter transfer Tristan Tillman also hit .429. Unfortunately, the rest of the team went 7-for-70 at Georgia Southwestern.

Spartanburg Methodist

* Pioneer pearls: It was feast-or-famine for the SMC offense on the first weekend. Justin Dawkins (.455), Blake Exizan (.385), Jarian Pinckney (.333) and Tyler Strickland (.333) combined for a .381 batting average.  The rest of the team went 6-for-55 (.109).

USC Aiken

* Pacer patter: Hunter Thompson went 7-for-12 (.583) against Mars Hill while Capers Molinaroli hit .500 with 2 doubles and 2 homers. Josh Sharp checked in at .462. Aiken hit .349 as a team ... Blayne Newman was the losing pitcher on Saturday, but he struck four eight in five innings.

USC Beaufort

* Shark shags: The 10-run seventh inning in the opener of the North Greenville series provided the bulk of USC Beaufort's scoring for the weekend. The Sand Sharks totaled 8 runs in the other 34 innings ... USCB hit .153 as a team, with Joe Turner (.375) the only regular to bat above .250 ... The staff ERA was 13.11.

USC Lancaster

* Lancer lobs: Finn McLaughlin went 7-for-12 with 3 doubles and 2 homers in the weekend series with Catawba Valley

USC Salkehatchie

* Wigwam wisps:  The Indians matched Southeastern in hits (six) in Saturday's second game and took a two-run lead into the bottom of the sixth. But a pair of bases-loaded hit batsmen tied the score and the host Rams went on the a three-run win ... Luke Palyok went 3-for-6 with a double and a triple on Saturday ... Salkehatchie is batting .162 through five games.

USC Sumter

* Ant hills: Fire Ants batters were hit by pitches eight times against East Georgia, but USCS pitchers plunked 12 ... Bryce Fraga was 5-for-7 with a triple and three walks, giving him a 1.000 slugging percentage and .800 on-base percentage ... Cavan McMeans hit .545 and drove in seven runs.

USC Union

* Fowl fare: The Bantams hit .360 in the sweep of Southwest Virginia. Leading the way was Markus Kirksey, who as 8-for-11 (.727) with three doubles and two homers. That's a 1.545 slugging percentage ... Pitchers struck out 43 would-be hitters in 26 innings.
