It's not exactly Dead Man Walking - but it's close.
The news earlier this month that Limestone University faces the prospect of closing its doors over financial issues prompted most of the players on its baseball team to enter the transfer portal in hopes of continuing their career somewhere else.
The way the issue was presented made it seem like athletics would not survive even if the school finds a way to stay open.
But as dreary as the prospects are, the Saints have shown they haven't quit are doing to do the best to give their supporters a memorable conclusion to the season, regardless of the future.
With Friday's win over Virginia Wise, the Saints qualified for the South Atlantic Conference Tournament for the first time in a decade. A sweep of the Cavaliers on Saturday earned Limestone the fourth seed for this week's conference.
Even though Saints coach Brett Harker was at the helm at Furman when that school dropped baseball in 2020, that decision wasn't announced until after the season, so he hasn't had to coach while the clock was ticking down. But it's obvious he's been able to keep his team's focus between the foul lines.
So far, the Saints are making the best of a no-win situation.
