* NCAA Division I: N.C. State (29-12, 14-6) collected 13 hits and handed No. 2 Clemson (36-8, 13-7) its first back-to-back losses and first ACC series loss of the season. The Wolfpack touched up Clemson pitchers for 13 hits. Jacob Jarrell and Collin Priest homered for the Tigers ... Andrew Stanley and Maddox Webb combined for a five-hit shutout as The Citadel (21-19, 5-5) took the SoCon series opener with VMI (25-18, 5-8) ... Gabe Natividad and Koby Kropf had three hits apiece for Winthrop (23-21, 9-7) in a Big South Conference series-opening win at Longwood (10-32, 4-12). It was the 500th career NCAA win for Eagles coach Mike McGuire ... Amp Phillips pitched six shutout innings and four teammates hit home runs as USC Upstate (22-21, 9-4) won a Big South Conference series opener at Gardner-Webb (16-26, 5-11) ... Amman Dewberry singled twice, homered and drove in six runs as Presbyterian (17-22, 9-7) snapped a six-game losing streak to open a Big South Conference series with Charleston Southern (22-16, 8-8) ... UNC Wilmington (22-19, 10-6) took command with a five-run fourth inning and handed College of Charleston (23-17, 7-9) its fifth straight CAA loss ...Coastal Carolina was trailing James Madison, 1-0, heading into the eighth inning of the Sun Belt Conference game when rain forced suspension of play until Saturday ... South Carolina's SEC opener at Kentucky was rained out and will be made up as part of a Saturday doubleheader.

* Conference Carolinas: Josean Sanchez's 10th-inning RBI single against Shorter (24-20, 12-16) brought Erskine's (19-29, 8-20) six-game losing streak to an end. It was coach Mark Crocco's 200th win with the Flying Fleet ... North Greenville (41-10, 20-8) kept its hopes of sharing the regular-season title alive in Game 1 against Southern Wesleyan (9-39, 8-20).

* Peach Belt Conference: Dominic Puccetti pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings to get his ninth win and Lander (35-13, 21-4) stayed a game behind first-place North Georgia with win over Georgia Southwestern (29-19, 16-9). The Bearcats, who have won seven straight, are assured of being a host in the first weekend of the conference tournament ... Jack Hobson hit for the cycle and drove in four runs as USC Aiken (20-27, 9-16) took Game 1 at USC Beaufort (9-35, 5-20) ... Seven players had two or more RBI as Columbus State (24-21, 15-10) took the opener at Claflin (5-37-1, 0-25), which lost its 29th straight game.

* South Atlantic Conference: Limestone (23-24, 15-13) clinched a berth in the conference tournament with the help of a three-run seventh inning against Virginia Wise (26-19, 14-14). 

* Other four-year schools: Reinhardt (37-9, 23-6) clinched no worse than a tie for the Appalachian Athletic Conference regular-season title with a sweep of Columbia International (28-19, 14-15) ... Paine (19-8) took  a pair from Morris (1-38). Jonathan Warren had two hits in each game for the Hornets ... Toccoa Falls (20-25) scored the go-ahead run on a ninth-inning wild pitch to beat Bob Jones, then the Bruins (10-27) could not hold an early lead in a loss to Carolina University (9-32), which snapped a nine-game losing streak.
