Beauford Sanders, coach at Campbellsville College in Kentucky, was awarded the Robert E. Smith Achievement Award recently at the annual NAIA Baseball Coaches' Association's business meeting.
Sanders, a Woodruff native, has won more than 1,200 games as a coach, more than 268 during his tenure as coach at North Greenville from 1978 to 1990. He has won 10 Mid-South Conference championships in a 32-year career at Campbellsville.
The Smith Award is given to those who unselfish devotion to the promotion of NAIA baseball. It is named for former Greenville (Ill.) College coach Robert "Ish" Smith, who is credited for a major role in helping baseball become an Olympic sport.
