Gamecocks are popular on Day 2 of MLB Draft

South Carolina had four players and two projected incoming players selected on Day 2 of the Major League Baseball Draft.

Shortstop Braylen Wimmer (Rockies, eighth round) and weekend starting pitchers Jack Mahoney (Rockies, third round), Will Sanders (Cubs, fourth round) and Noah Hall (Mets, seventh round) were selected off the Gamecocks' 2023 roster.

In addition, recent USC transfer commitment Matt Duffy (RHP) of Canisius went to the Red Sox in the fourth round and incoming freshman outfielder George Wolkow of Downers Grove, Ill., went to the White Sox in the seventh round.

Elsewhere, Clemson catcher Cooper Ingle went to the Cleveland Guardians in the fourth round and Tigers LHP Ryan Ammons was picked by the Red Sox in the 10th round.

Coastal Carolina closer Teddy Sharkey went to the Baltimore Orioles in the seventh round. Also, Winthrop's Brody Hopkins went to the Mariners in the sixth round.

Also, Alfonsin Rosario (OF) of P27 Academy in Lexington went to the Cubs in the sixth round and former USC pitcher C.J. Weins of Western Kentucky went to the Red Sox in the sixth round.

The draft concludes beginning at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
