Florence-Darlington Tech (4-1)
(beat Gaston College, beat USC Sumter, went 2-1 vs. Monroe)
How could I not go with the Stingers after they punched their ticket to the NJCAA World Series?
Coach Preston McDonald's squad had a productive week, beating USC Sumter to win the Region 10 Tournament in Lexington, then taking two of three from Monroe College around the corner from Rob and Laura Petrie's digs in New Rochelle, N.Y., in the East District Tournament.
FD Tech (51-10) was unbeaten in region play before losing three of four to Gaston College on the final weekend of league play. But the Stingers went 3-0 in the region tournament, outscoring their opponents 37-12. Included was an 11-4 win over Gaston College.
The East District Tournament was the customary balanced Stingers performance. Announcers on Monroe's video stream raved about the talent of Region 10 player of the year Rom Kellis, but the Stingers spread the production around.
Up next: The NJCAA World Series begins May 25 in Grand Junction, Colo.
