Q&A with Voorhees coach Adrian West

This is the first in what I hope will be a series of Q&A posts with coaches with each state college program.

PSB: Based on what you saw in fall workouts, which newcomers seem most ready to contribute from the start of the season?

AW: Based on our fall workouts and a very young team, I think that a couple of our new players will make an immediate impact. Darryl Brown, native of Jacksonville, FL will be a valuable impact and is projected to start at shortstop and will also have a lot of innings on the mound. Another player that will play an impact will be freshman first baseman, Brandon Maxwell (St. Augustine, FL) who is expected to be a starter and have a great season offensively. Mario Baez, from the Dominican Republic will also play a vital part as a middle infielder, outfielder and will pitch as well.

PSB: Based on what you saw in fall workouts, what area of your team is of the most concern entering the season.

AW: I think our pitching has to really step up because we are limited in this area in terms of numbers. I do believe that what will do have will be effective, but we also have to worry about how we keep these pitchers ready to go because so many of them are primary in other positions as well.

PSB: Which returnees from 2009 do you think fans will see the most improvement in for 2010.

AW: This will really be a rebuilding year for us. We have 13 new players with 4 returnees from last year's roster. Walter Bethune (Senior), should provide some leadership and improvement to help assist in the development of the new players along with senior Arthur James, last year's team MVP, best defensive player and leading hitter.

Coming Monday: Erskine
