Clemson, which won Friday's opener, 11-1, took a 1-0 lead in the first, Carolina scored twice in the second inning. Wes Clarke's fifth homer of the season helped USC build the lead to 4-1. The Gamecocks pushed the lead to 7-2 before Clemson closed the gap with the help of a Davis Sharpe homer and some struggles by the USC bullpen.

The crowd of 8,986 was the largest crowd for a Clemson-USC baseball game other than four meetings in Omaha at the College World Series. The teams drew a crowd of 22,334 on June 25, 2010 in the first of two meetings at Rosenblatt Stadium. The next day drew 12.593. In 2002, the teams drew 21,429 on June 19 and 11,634 on June 21.
Game 3 of the series is at 2 p.m. Sunday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in Clemson.
